Etymology 34m4s The word "Cybernetics" comes from the Greek word "Kubernetes" which means helmsman. Transliterated to Latin it becomes "Gubernator" which in English is "Governor". Beer proceeds to draw a schematic of a governor.
Warren McCulloch retired from professor of psychiatry at Illinois and switched to teaching electronics at MIT.
The birthplace was Mexico City around the time of WWII. Many scientists, experts in their own fields, gathered in a neutral country and stumbled upon compelling commonalities when comparing notes about "control". A process of inquiry into these commonalities discovered rigorous and scientifically grounded evidence and argument that convinced participants they'd discovered a new discipline.
