There are many connections that maintain the status quo. Imagine the giant, Gulliver, tied down to the earth by many bonds. Most institutions and even cultures are so interconnected, mostly invisibly, historically, to other institutions and beliefs that they are unchangeable.
There rarely come moments in history where enough of the interconnections become visible and changeable (mostly because they are finally seen in their totality) that, if there is a very big motivation, the system can change dramatically.
This is one of those moments.
We are in a global pandemic, an economic upheaval, an acute and broad-based social awareness, with enough time for personal and collective reflection and action.
There are some approaches to change that are much more effective than others.
My favorite is agreeing on the system we truly wish we had now, Idealized Design.
It is very powerful if you can get together and agree on what you really want--if there were no constraints, before you start changing things.
