Specification Overview

This is like the table of contents for your spec. It might be a simple flowchart, or it might be an extensive architectural discussion. Everybody will read this to get the big picture, then the details will make more sense.

# Aims

The aim of the project is to provide a set of Enabling Tools, and a sustainable governance model to provide a more robust, and financially viable ecosystem of services for the commons.

Our focus is on groups, and group-to-group communication, exchange, and co-working, not the individual.

However as groups start with individuals, or small informal partnerships, we do intend to fully build on decentralised protocols and methodologies to facilitate the formation of viable, vibrant small scale cooperatives, or more fluid groups of individuals in the process of forming productive cooperations for the benefit of the commons.

# Strategy

Our strategy here is to take a pragmatic layered approach to decentralisation.

# Overview

Platform Earth is a federated microservice platform for the commons. We intend to provide a commons server in a docker, together with automated deployment of these servers to independent organisations or individuals that are responsible for their own data and governance of their own server.

This commons server will provide the existing core Fedwiki server requirements together with additional functionality. These additional functions will include the following:

1. Ability to author New microservices 1. Polygot service design 1. Simple update mechanism under control of the site administrator, with the potential for automatic upgrades. 1. Ability to Publish Microservices to a Federation App Store 1. Ability to Subscribe to microservices authored by other federation members.
